The Meeting That Could Have Been an Email

The Meeting That Could Have Been an Email

They scheduled a one-hour meeting to decide whether they needed a meeting.

What Actually Happened

  1. Five minutes of “Can everyone hear me?”
  2. Ten minutes of someone sharing their screen and showing the wrong tab.
  3. Fifteen minutes discussing what the meeting was supposed to be about.
  4. Twenty minutes of silence while one person typed furiously.
  5. Final ten minutes: “Let’s take this offline.”

At the end, someone said, “Great discussion, team.”
The calendar invite for the follow-up meeting arrived before anyone left the call.

Moral: Some meetings exist only to create more meetings. The email is still waiting.
